Teacher at Hyde-Addison Elementary School Arrested in Predator DC Child Sex Sting Operation
Thomas Birner, a teacher of more than 10 years, was busted naked, bringing narcotics for his tryst with the decoy posing as underaged teen. A long string of victims are suspected.
Thomas Birner, a substitute teacher of more than 10 years at Georgetown’s Hyde-Addison Elementary School, was busted by Jacob Wohl and Jack Burkman’s Predator DC attempting to have sex with a decoy posing as an underaged teen. Birner was standing completely nude as Wohl and Burkman entered the room to interrogate him.

During the extensive interrogation performed by Burkman and Wohl, Birner admitted to soliciting the decoy whom he believed to be a minor for sex and further repeated that admission to officers of the Anne Arundel County Police Department, before being arrested. Birner’s electronic devices were seized by officers, along with his backpack containing condoms, viagra, marijuana and amphetamines that Birner said he obtained from a supposed street dealer.
The bust came after Birner engaged in a long string of text messages and phone calls with the Predator DC’s decoy posing as an underaged teen. In the messages and calls, Birner requested what he believed to be child-pornography and sent dozens of extremely lewd text messages which described committing violent sex acts as well as explicit images and videos.
Birner’s girlfriend discovered his messages with the decoy posing as an underaged teen and told the decoy that Birner had molested many underaged people in the past. She also stated that Birner gave her genital herpes.
In subsequent messages, Birner’s girlfriend expressed a desire to participate in sex acts with the minor—though she did not ultimately arrive with Birner at the Predator DC sting-house.
In a phone call with the decoy that took place weeks before he arrived at the Predator DC sting house rigged with hidden cameras, Birner stated that he has a sexual interest in both girls and boys.
Before working as an elementary school teacher in the United States, Birner worked the same job in Korea.
Birner’s arrest was memorialized with the case number 22-719546. Parents who believe that their children may be one of Thomas Birner’s alleged victims should contact the Anne Arundel County Police Department and the DC Metro Police Department.
